This pattern is a fairly straight forward hat made from an odd number of stitches in 2X2 ribbing.  The hat itself was easy but the ears … not so much.  Now I should admit that for some reason I have the hardest time crocheting.  I’m not good at it.  I spent almost half the time trying to get the ears right.

I was concentrating so hard on crocheting correctly that I didn’t realize my ear tuffs had gotten a little long.  By the time I was done and tried on the hat, my ogre had turned into an alien.  I’ll redo another hat later with shorter ear tuffs but for now I have an alien hat.

10/31/2011 Update: I wore this hat while handing out candy and quite a few kids said they really liked it.  One boy even asked if I had knitting it myself =) The all asked if it was a Shrek hat so I guess I’m still on the ogre side at least for little kids.

The majority of this pattern was fairly consistent with only the center and edging deviating from the same general stitch pattern.  I enjoyed it but I did not like the double or even triple yarn overs that were in the center and edge charts.  I find that I have to always slow down to avoid losing these extra yarn overs and it breaks up my rhythm.
