30 Days of Knitting Questions – Day 19

Continuing my posts from the tumblr account Crafts and Such that has a list of 30 knitting questions; one for each day.

Day 19: Do you watch movies and/or listen to podcasts while knitting? What are your favorite things to knit to?

I’m almost always watching TV while I’m knitting at home.  If I’m very stressed out I’ll turn on the radio and knit to music but for the most part I’m watching TV.

I like knitting to drama shows as I don’t worry about missing much with these.  NCIS reruns are my favorites since I’ve seen most of them already and I enjoy the dialog. DWTS, Project Runway, or any other visual type reality shows are definitely not all that fun to knit to.  I’ve had to tink quite a few lace rows when trying that.

My brother complains quite a bit about people who multi-task while watching movies which includes knitting.  He once told me he thought it was almost an insult because we were only getting half the movie.  If we’re not watching it then we miss out on special effects or subtle body language, etc.  I will admit that I won’t knit to a movie I’m really looking forward to or that is very action driven.  Other movies, like romantic comedies, are great to knit to because you don’t lose much.

Comments

  1. I almost always knit while watching TV or movies. I have ADHD and knitting helps me keep my hands busy so my brain can keep engaged with the show. I love all different genres – romantic comedies, murder mysteries (my favorite), musicals, funny animated stuff, whatever. Since I don’t have cable TV, all my TV/movie watching is on the computer or DVDs so if I miss something because of I get too engrossed in the knitting, I can always rewind and rewatch.

I also love audiobooks while knitting. I check them out of the local library. I get my literature fix at the same time as my knitting fix. Win-win!
