30 Days of Knitting Questions – Day 16

Continuing my posts from the tumblr account Crafts and Such that has a list of 30 knitting questions; one for each day.

Day 16: Have you ever had a knitting related injury?

Thankfully I have never sat on the sharp end of any of my knitting needles.  I was always afraid I would do that.  I haven’t injured myself lately but there have been a few incidents.  Most of these are from knitting too long without enough breaks.  Around Christmas when I’m trying to get a lot done my hands/wrists/arms will end up sore.  Knitting more the next day helps so it all works out =)

Other than that I think the worst was a bruised thumb.  It’s probably only been about a year or so that I stopped being a really tight knitter.  Before that I would use my thumb to press down on the needle points to get my stitches off the needle. I would knit that tight.  Typically it was when I would be doing decrease or increase stitches that I needed my thumb.  I don’t remember what project it was but there was one time when thumb was actually bruised and not just sore for about 2-3 days.

I’m sure I’ve stuck myself with blocking pins a lot but that never seems to hurt.

Comments

  1. I once had a flash fiction piece of flash fiction published where a woman died by knitting needle.

    • I think people are fascinated with the idea of death by knitting needle. There was an NCIS rerun I saw not too long ago where someone took a woman’s knitting needle on a plane and stabbed a guy to death with it.

  2. LOL like pizza pizza – only one flash fiction
